Routines

Routines have Cue do work on a schedule, such as a morning summary or a check every hour. On Cue OS, a remote routine runs on Cue's servers, and a local routine runs through Cue CLI on your own computer. Each routine keeps a record of its runs, so you can check the result instead of assuming it worked.

What you can do

• Ask Cue in chat to schedule work for you.
• Add a remote routine to a chat with one of your agents.
• Add local routines with Cue CLI.
• See each routine's status, next run, last run, and any error.
• Run a routine now, pause it, change it, or delete it.
• Get a routine's result by email.

On the web

1. Open your account menu, choose Settings, then Routines. You can also go straight to cueos.ai/app/utilities/schedule.
2. Browse your routines. Use All for the list, or Calendar to see them by date.
3. To add a routine, the simplest way is to ask Cue in a chat, for example: "Every weekday at 8 AM, summarize the news about indoor gardening." Then find the new routine in the list.
4. To add one yourself, open a chat with one of your agents, open the chat's More options menu, and choose Routines. Select New routine, then Remote. Give it a Title and a Prompt, choose Once, Daily, Weekly, or Every for an interval, set the time and time zone, and save. The routine runs in that chat.
5. Select a routine to open it. You see its Status with the next run, its last run with the time and any error, how often it Repeats, its Instructions, and its History.
6. Use the switch on a row to pause or resume a routine that still has runs ahead. The row's three-dot menu has Delete, plus Run now and Edit for repeating routines that support them. Deleting asks you to confirm and cannot be undone.

The Local choice under New routine tells you to create local routines with Cue CLI. Local routines appear in the list only while Cue CLI is running on your computer. Until then the page shows "No CLI worker connected" with a Refresh button.

When you ask Cue in a web chat to set up a routine, you can ask for the result by email. Cue OS sends it with a link back to the chat, even when no Cue tab is open.

On iPhone and Android

The iPhone and Android apps are coming; store review is pending. You can use Cue OS in your phone browser now.

1. Open cueos.ai/app/utilities/schedule in your phone browser and sign in.
2. Follow the web steps above.

With Cue CLI

Local routines belong to one agent on your computer, so most local commands need --agent. Remote routines are the ones on your Cue OS account.

1. List routines:

   cue routine list --scope remote --json
   cue --agent <agent> routine list --scope local --all --json

2. Look at one routine and its recent runs:

   cue routine get <id> --scope remote --json
   cue --agent <agent> routine get <name> --scope local --json

3. See what your local routines did while you were away:

   cue --agent <agent> catchup routines --since 24h --json

4. Preview a local routine that runs every hour. --safe-defaults skips missed runs and turns the routine off after three failures in a row:

   cue --agent <agent> routine add --name garden-check --every 1h \
     --task "Review the garden notes and report anything needing attention" \
     --safe-defaults --dry-run --json

5. Run the same command without --dry-run to save it. Add --run-now to start the first run right away.

6. Pause it when you no longer want it to run:

   cue --agent <agent> routine disable garden-check --scope local --json

schedule, schedules, and routines also work in place of routine. Most routine commands default to local; routine get defaults to remote, so pass --scope to be clear. Run cue routine --help for run, enable, update, and remove.

Limits today

• A recurring routine that failed can still show a green check in the web list. Open the routine and read its last run and error.
• Local routines run only while your computer is awake and Cue CLI's background manager is running.
• Local routines repeat on an interval or at a set time of day. They do not accept cron expressions.
• On the web, you can add a remote routine only from an agent chat's Routines menu, or by asking Cue.
• The web notification settings do not have a switch for routine result emails yet.
• Remote routines run while your browser is closed, but reliable delivery over many days has not been measured.
• A routine does not write to Pulse unless its task tells the agent to.
